Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen excelled at sports and loved rough, athletic sports. Her natural ability to perform was a perfect complement to her love of sports. As evidenced by receiving nearly every Feis award in drama or the stage that her country had to offer. At the age of 14, she was accepted into the world-renowned Abbey Theater and pursued her dream of classical theater and operatic singing. The course of her life was modified when Charles Laughton, after seeing an audition for a film of Maureen, became mesmerized by her beautiful, captivating eyes. Prior to casting her for the role in Jamaica Inn (1939), Laughton and his partner, Erich Pommer, changed her name instead of Maureen FitzSimons to "Maureen O'Hara" which was a little shorter last name for the marquee. Maureen was on contract with Laughton to film her next movie in America at RKO Pictures (The Hunchback of Notre The Dame 1939). Maureen was able to buy her contract from Laughton following the film's success. a huge success. Maureen Laughton had been involved in two motion picture productions at the age of 19 years old.
